The FBI’s IC3 annual tally of self-reported internet-crime complaints and losses, published April 2026 covering calendar year 2025, including phishing/spoofing complaint and loss figures used in Preventing Phishing Scams to update stats that page’s primary source (a 2005 industry estimate) had left over twenty years stale.

Key points
- Phishing/spoofing was the single largest complaint category in 2025 by volume: 191,561 complaints, out of 1,008,597 total complaints across all crime types (~19%).
- Phishing/spoofing losses reached $215.8 million in 2025, up from $70 million in 2024 (a 208% increase) even though complaint volume barely moved (193K to 191K) — each attack is doing far more financial damage per incident than it used to. Two years prior, losses were $18.7 million.
- Total losses across all crime types reached $20.9 billion in 2025, a 26% increase over 2024’s $16.6 billion, itself a prior record.
- Phishing/spoofing complaints against victims aged 60+ rose over 100% year-over-year in 2025.
