Key points
- Meta-moderation is a second layer of moderation: rather than trusting individual moderators unilaterally, other community members are shown a post a moderator rated up or down and asked to judge whether that specific moderation decision was fair.
- Distributes moderation judgment across many members instead of concentrating it in a small admin team, catching an individual moderator’s bias or error without requiring a human editor to review every decision.
- Slashdot and Kuro5hin are the named originators of the technique; GameFAQs’ message boards formerly used a meta-moderation system but no longer does.
